Hey Guys, Yesterday Microsoft released Cumulative Update 5, it’s a little strange in my opinion because they announced at Ignite, the release of Service Pack 2 for CM12R2 which will add support for Windows 10, next week. Yes you read this correct, next week Microsoft will add support for Windows 10. Although, I’ll go through the entire setup of this cumulative update, for more information about what is fixed please continue reading on the At the end of this blog, we will have Cumulative Update 5 installed, Collections created for our Client Hotfix. In my environment I have SQL Server 2014 running, so I was a little twitchy at the start but all went really smooth. Installing Cumulative Update 5 Installing CU5 is pretty much the same process as installing previous updates for ConfigMgr 2012 R2.

Click Next to continue. If you have a multiple site hierarchy, always start with the top site (Central Administration Server). Since I’m running a Single Primary Site Server in my LAB I have no choice. These packages can be used to automate the process in your ConfigMgr Hierarchy. For Site Servers and Configuration Manager Consoles is it in my opinion better to have them manually updated. If you have selected All packages here, it’s not needed to have the packages created when you apply the CU to other Site Servers because they are part of the global data set. Click Next to continue. The next 3 screens are the Update Packages information screens, leave them and click Next to continue. On the Summary Screen, you can see the installation details. Click Install to start the installation of CU5. When the Installation is successfully ended, all the steps should have Status:Successful.

Click Next and Finish. At this point your Site Server has been successfully updated to CU5. Repeat this process for all the Site Servers and Management Servers/Clients having a Console installed, in your hierarchy. If you have Microsoft Intune integrated in Configuration Manager, you will notice that when you start ConfigMgr, the extensions are getting updated. When you click Close, the console will restart and let you know that there are new extensions available. Click OK to continue. In the registry you can verify the CU level just to make sure that everything is fine.
