Studies Flashcards For Mac

13.03.2020

There was a time, not that long ago, when studying, making notes and flashcards all took place on paper using pens. Now students need apps to record notes, create flashcards and write term papers and essays. Apps are more familiar, easier to use and especially when revising for an exam or working together on an academic project, far more convenient for collaboration and sharing notes and flashcards. Flashcards were card-based memorisation tools so that you could note down dozens of complex issues in easy-to-digest cards. Now, flashcards to memorize academic notes, have digital equivalents, available within a couple of apps you can download using Setapp, with considerably more powerful and convenient features than cardboard versions. Instead of hastily scribbled paper notes, you can access more detail, link to journals, documents, articles and resources, while also making it easy to share and collaborate with others studying the same subject.

Depending on what you are studying - a humanities or science subject, or foreign languages - there are two apps in the we highly recommend for those who need to create flashcards on a Mac. How to make flashcards to support your studies No matter what you are studying - fine art, history, languages, law, mathematics, medicine or music — is a hugely useful companion, with built-in study notes. Similar to traditional flashcards, except you can have unlimited slides, and can include text, links, images, audio and video notes. For anyone studying foreign languages, one of the most valuable apps, either alongside or separate from Studies, is Wokabulary. This is the most effective way to learn and manage your vocabulary, with flashcards at the heart of this apps suite of tools. Both are very useful, and you can easily create flashcards in either app.

It only depends on what you are studying as to which you might want to use. You could also use for vocabulary exercises, while using Studies in the broader context of your academic work, therefore benefiting from the convenience and functionality of both apps. Studies is the advanced version of Mental Case, a popular on the App Store.

Compared to the cost of an education, this is a small change, but with a powerful list of features, students find they save a huge amount of time, absorb more information - thanks to Study Notes - the feature that is a modern flashcard. All you need to do is click New Note, or New Stack, to create a new series of Study Notes within Studies on your Mac.

With both apps, these notes can be synced to Apple iPhones and iPads. How to share flashcards with other students Within both apps, Wokabulary and Studies, students can easily import information in multiple formats and share with friends and others studying your course. You can share notes and flashcards through a range of formats just with a few clicks. With Studies, you also have the option of sharing an archive of a set of flashcards, so that anyone else with Studies can upload and share with others. Due counts on Groups should update properly now. Sync when first launching should be more reliable.

Notes studied on a different device could sometimes become due again after a sync. Now they should not. When notes are grouped by stack in a study session, the order of stacks is now consistent with the source list order.

Fixed an issue making Smart Stacks that search on the stack title. The All Notes count could sometimes be wrong, or have the wrong font.

This is fixed. Flashing of due counts during sync should no longer occur.

Stability improvements. 1.0.8 Jun 7, 2016. Resident doc, Poor performance with large decks I loved this app until I hit about 500 cards.

To be fair, about a third of my cards contain a picture. At this point, however, adding a card started taking 10-20 seconds, which didn’t fit my work flow. The switch to Anki wasn’t easy but was worth it. Anki, unlike Studies, handles large decks without blinking.

I’m now up to 20k cards, also many with pictures, and there is absolutely no delay in performance. I also like the ability Anki has to grade a card as hard/moderate/easy and it’s database-like features which automate making similar cards. Overall, Studies served me well when I only had a bit to learn, but once I started to depend on it to hold more info, it let me down.

Developer Response, 500 cards is very few. We have customers with 20000 or more. If the app is feeling slow at this number, there is probably something going wrong somewhere. Adding a new card should take no more than half a second or so, no matter how many notes you have. You should contact our support to investigate (support@mentalfaculty.com). I'm a bit suspicious of your motives with this review.

Sounds like you stopped using Studies long ago, if you even used it, and are now simply advertising Anki. Resident doc, Poor performance with large decks I loved this app until I hit about 500 cards.

However, the tags and templates feature is maddeningly inconsistent. Spend hours tagging your vocab cards and categorizing them into stacks, then apply a template and everything gets changed.

Hours of work down the drain. Then I trieed to export my library, so that I could restore it in case the app messed things up. When I go to impot the library, it didn't save any of my tags. I'm done with this app, not because it's a bad concept, but because I can't rely upon it for what I need it to do. Remove these bugs and make it stable and reliable, and it would get 10 stars from me. Suelzled, Great Concept. Way too buggy.
